Community Housing Aotearoa Managing Director Vic Crockford wants to applaud CORT Community Housing as it celebrates the opening of the first development in its pipeline of 104 decent and affordable homes in Auckland.

“This new development, built in partnership with the ACC, is another example of the ability of community housing providers to continue to bring more affordable housing online despite the unprecedented economic and supply challenges rocking our sector of construction,” says Crockford.

“These houses show that you can trust our sector, even in the most difficult of circumstances, and it further underscores the difference that long-term sustainable funding would make for our members and the communities they serve.

“With flexible long-term funding parameters that have a ‘one door entry’ approach for registered vendors, other partnerships like the one between CORT and ACC can be unlocked.”

Of the nearly 9,000 new public homes built since 2017, 1,775 have been delivered by community housing providers according to the Department of Housing and Urban Development, with another 260 progressive home ownership places given the green light for funding since 2020. And Crockford says this development is just one example of many that have been delivered over the past 12 months by members of Community Housing Aotearoa.

“Our members have added 977 quality, affordable homes this year alone, across New Zealand, further easing our housing crisis and ensuring the right to decent housing is realized for more families.”

Editor’s note:

  • CORT Community Housing will open a new community housing development at 115 Oreil Avenue, Massey, Auckland on Friday October 7 at 10am.
